Michelle Tsai's writing has appeared in Slate, The Wall Street Journal, Foreign Policy, the BBC, Wired, Inc., Time Out New York, and The Christian Science Monitor.

Born in Kaoshiung, Taiwan, Michelle was raised in New York City and graduated from Wellesley College with a B.A. in English and Latin. Before moving to China in 2008, she was a writer for Slate and spent six years covering business and technology for Dow Jones. In Beijing, she served as managing editor of beijingkids, an English-language lifestyle magazine for families living in the city.
